Richard L. Middaugh Joins ReVolt Technology Advisory Board Battery Industry Veteran Joins Technical Leadership Team
Staefa, Switzerland, August 12, 2009 – ReVolt Technology, Ltd, a technology company, which has developed a rechargeable zinc-air battery, today announced that Dr. Richard L. Middaugh has joined its Technical Advisory Board.
Dr. Richard Middaugh has over 40 years experience in inorganic chemistry and electrochemistry. During his 26 years at Energizer Battery (formerly Eveready Battery), he progressed from scientist to Director of Technology, with work in the areas of aqueous alkaline zinc, lithium pyrite as well as exploration and development of other new battery chemistries. He managed the transition to mercury-free alkaline zinc manganese batteries, laid the groundwork for the recently introduced prismatic Zn-Air products, and led initiatives in quality system improvements and competency platform development. Prior to joining Energizer, he spent 13 years in teaching and researching inorganic and electrochemistry at the University of Kansas and Northeastern University. Richard has Ph.D in Chemistry from the University of Illinois and an A.B in Chemistry from Harvard University.
ReVolt Technology formed its Technology Advisory Board in December of 2008 to assess relevant technology trends both within and outside the battery industry, in order to leverage decades of experience in relevant material science, scale-up and successful technology transfer experience from a range of battery systems. Each board member brings significant technical knowledge, a global network and invaluable industry acumen to the ReVolt team, which will help guide future technology and related business development strategy.
Dr. Middaugh, the newest board member, stated, “I am pleased to be working with an outstanding group of scientists, engineers, and managers dedicated to bringing the rechargeable zinc-air battery system to market. Its best-in-class energy density makes it a potentially device-enabling technology, and its technology has much in common with my experience base in primary alkaline zinc battery systems.”
Adam Laubach, CTO, commented, “The addition of Dr. Middaugh to the ReVolt team is a significant step in expanding our depth and breadth of knowledge specific to battery systems that are similar in chemistry to Zn-Air. Richard’s many years of industrial alkaline battery experience and key industry contacts will help us make sure all relevant history is kept in mind as we move forward towards commercialization.”
About ReVolt Technology (www.revolttechnology.com) ReVolt Technology Ltd. is a technology company, which has developed a rechargeable zinc-air battery. ReVolt’s batteries may enable more high-power consumer devices and increase the lifetime of existing consumer devices significantly. The technology is a result of six years of intense research and development at SINTEF (the largest independent research institute in Scandinavia). Research on material combinations has solved issues historically related to the metal-air technology; power, lifetime and rechargeability.
